Warburtons donate 10,000 loaves of bread to the Salford homeless charity

A local homeless charity donated 10,000 loaves of bread from British baking giant Warburtons.

The donation is intended to celebrate a year of Warburton’s support for Emmaus Salford.

Since April 2020, Warburtons have been supporting the homeless charity by delivering 200 loaves a week.

The bread is shared between the Emmaus community – where 24 formerly homeless people live – and residents who are members of Lucie’s pantry.

Brett Warburton, Executive Director at Warburtons said, “Our family business has always done it to help those who need it most, but it may be needed now more than ever.

“We are proud to support a great charity that does so much to help those most in need in Salford.”

Emmaus Salford supports formerly homeless people by providing them with stable homes, meaningful work and support for as long as they need it.

During their time at Emmaus, people gain skills, experience and confidence by working in the charity’s social enterprise and Lucie’s Pantry social supermarket.

Lucie’s Pantry provides groceries and household items to Salford residents who struggle to make ends meet due to debt, illness or low income.

Currently, 200 members of the pantry receive items weekly. In addition, Emmaus Salford is providing food packages to vulnerable residents across town.

Rachel Richardson, Community Director at Emmaus Salford said, “Since last April, our charity has been delivering fresh Warburtons bread every week.

“These donations have been gratefully received by the people we support and have helped reduce our food costs during a challenging time. Everyone at Emmaus Salford and Lucie’s Pantry thank the Warburtons team for their continued great support.”

Based in Bolton, Warburtons employ nearly 5,000 people across the UK and produce over 2 million baked goods every day.

As part of their Families Matter philosophy, Warburtons provide food banks, breakfast clubs and nonprofits with over 7 million meals to help those who need them most.
