Two players returned positive lateral flow tests while two employees showed symptoms of Covid-19.

Wakefield was scheduled to head to the AJ Bell Stadium on Thursday night as they were looking for consecutive wins after beating the Wigan Warriors last week.

Talks between Wakefield, Salford and the RFL will now take place to examine possible dates for reorganizing the game.

A Super League statement said: “Salford announced Tuesday morning that one of their senior players had returned a positive lateral flow test – and that more than six other players had to isolate as close contacts.

“The positive has now been confirmed with a PCR test.

“The club also reported another player this morning with a positive lateral flow test and two other employees who are symptomatic. As a result, the club was referred to the Multiple Case Group.

“According to the RFL’s Covid-19 protocols, a team can request the postponement of a game if seven or more high-level players are unavailable due to Covid-19 – either through positive tests or through close contacts.

“Salford was due to receive Wakefield on July 1st and travel to Hull FC next Monday, July 5th.

“The clubs will now contact the RFL about a possible reorganization of one or both games – although the Betfred Super League table will again be determined by victory point percentage to take into account the possibility that not all games will be fulfilled. “
