Salford Fitness fan will take on a brutal bike challenge to raise funds for Manchester mental health charity

Salford-based Jared Berndt, a 21-year-old personal trainer and model, will attempt an epic fitness challenge in which he will burn 2,032 calories in less than three hours to raise funds for Mind, a mental health charity in Salford .

Jared, who trained at his home in Middlewood Locks’ New Maker Yards, will cut calories by riding to the attack wheel – a diabolical device often used by competitive crossfit athletes.

After seeing the impact the pandemic had on the mental health of others, Jared set out to create a challenge that would help raise money and represent the hard work of the local charity. The 2,032 calories and 2,032 pounds he hopes to collect represent the number of hours Mind has spent at Salford Helplines in the past year saving lives.

He will take up the challenge on March 21, 2021 at 9 a.m. outdoors in Get Living’s New Maker Yards neighborhood, with socially aloof support from a friend to ensure his well-being is taken care of.

Even for those with a high level of fitness, the Assault Bike requires a lot of stamina and endurance to keep up with the pace.

To encourage donations and demonstrate their support for Jared, Mind in Salford offered to gift the first five people who donate over £ 15 with a branded t-shirt. On Instagram, New Maker Yards and Jared are holding a raffle for those who share screenshots of their donations to win 1: 1 training sessions with Jared in the neighborhood.[1] If you want to support Jared, you can do so with a donation via his JustGiving page.

Jared said, “My main passion in life is helping my clients achieve their own fitness goals, but every year I also face a personal challenge to really focus my mind and body.

I’ve always tried to use that energy and determination for a positive cause. When I learned about the work of Mind In Salford through Get Living’s partnership at New Maker Yards, where I live and work, I wanted to take the opportunity to raise funds for the mental health charity.

The past year has shed light on the relationship between our physical and mental health. I am so grateful that I was able to continue my work at New Maker Yards and train customers one-on-one in the outdoor parking lot in a Covid-safe manner. For many, I’m the only personal interaction they have all week. We keep going.

I accept this challenge for my customers, friends and family who suffered from mental health problems before and during Covid. Organizations and charities like Mind in Salford are why many of the closest people in my life are still here today.

The aim is to raise £ 2,032, which corresponds to the 2,032 hours Mind opened on Salford’s hotline last year to support the local community. The 2,032 challenge is to burn 2,032 calories on my assault bike in less than 2 hours and 32 minutes. Lockdown 3.0 gave me the opportunity to train hard and I currently have an average of 800 calories per hour, with the longest time on the bike being 1 hour and 30 minutes. To achieve this goal, I need to burn about 13 calories per minute. It’s going to be tight, but everyone who knows me knows I’ve been both stubborn and driven, so I won’t give up until I see 2,032 flashes on my tracker! “

New Maker Yards is a Get Living area in Middlewood Locks, a canal area between the city centers of Salford and Manchester. After asking residents what causes were most important to them, Get Living’s New Maker Yards team supported Mind in Salford and donated over £ 5,000.

Naomi Evans, Head of Communications at Mind in Salford, showed her support for the challenge, adding, “This is going to be a tough physical challenge, even considering Jared’s fitness level! We are so grateful for the support at a time when we are trying to support our local community through the final lockdown. “
