Nicki Minaj attempting to pronounce ‘Salford’ goes viral

Nicki Minaj’s attempt at pronouncing the word “Salford” caused joy on the internet this morning.

And guess what? We owe that to TikTok. Not only is it great for watching celebrities face viral challenges (Lizzo is eating watermelon and mustard, anyone?), But it’s also perfect for discovering hidden gems, like this hilarious pre-pandemic clip from Nicki’s 2019 world tour.

The video posted by TikTok user @jOsephharrison already had a serious impact with over 700,000 views and 100,000 likes.

The video shows Nicki performing in front of a crowd in Manchester and asking, “Did you know I was born in Manchester?” in a, um, Cockney accent. Not far away, Nicki.

She continued: “But if I were from Manchester I don’t know exactly where I would be from …”

Cue cries from “Salford!” from the audience.

Does anyone else feel like a meme is popping up?

Nicki then bends down and tries to understand what her fans are saying to her. She has a few guesses and says, “South? Sloth? Sol?”

I mean not bad? Keep it up, Nicki.
