The two organizations have received a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) grant to develop evidence of the impact of social prescribing on local communities. A KTP is a government funded sub-project promoting university-business collaboration and is managed by Innovate UK.

Social prescribing is a method of directing people to non-medical sources of support within the community to improve their wellbeing. It often includes activities like fitness, gardening, cooking, and support groups.

It is believed that social prescribing can produce a number of positive outcomes for people’s health and wellbeing, such as: B. to improve the quality of life and emotional well-being. Much more research needs to be done, however, to provide the evidence.

Dr. Michelle Howarth, Lecturer / Assistant Director of PGR at the University of Salford, said, “This KTP is a wonderful opportunity for the University of Salford to work with a key industry partner, Elemental, to develop their digital platform to be robust and comprehensive social networks allow monitoring and reporting. This unique partnership will develop new and innovative solutions that provide social prescription providers with the data they need for future service planning and deployment. “

The partnership between the university, recognized as a leading authority on social prescribing, and the technology company will enable the university to generate key information models that it can analyze.

The information for the models is accessed from data collected through Elemental’s social prescribing platform used by NHS trusts, general practitioners, universities, housing associations and other organizations in the UK and Ireland.

The aim of the project is to embed skills and knowledge to support the development of a module for health management of the population with social prescribing, extend the analytical functionality of Elemental Software, improve data integration and interpretation, to provide robust evidence for community care models to generate.

It is intended that the skills and knowledge embedded through partnership will ensure that the delivery of social prescribing programs is targeted and driven through data analysis and data outcomes to help reduce health inequalities.

Helen McPeake, Strategy and Relationship Manager at Elemental Software added, “Elemental’s primary goal is to reduce health inequalities by providing companies with the digital tools needed to manage, track and report on their social prescribing programs. We are pleased to receive funding from Innovate UK to work with researchers at the University of Salford. We look forward to welcoming a KTP employee to the company who, in collaboration with the senior at Elemental and researchers at the university, will help us embed knowledge and skills into the platform’s analytical function to develop the social prescribing business model to expand further. ”
