Dog owners warned after “poison on pet food” claims in Salford Park

Dog walkers have been advised to keep an eye on their pets while out for a walk after allegations of toxic dog food found in a Salford Park.

Claims of rat poison dog food found in Winton Park, Eccles were made on social media on Bank Holiday.

Salford City Council says they are aware of the rumors and have advised residents to keep an eye on their pets as they walk around the park.

The council also says no animal was injured and the allegations were brought to the attention of the neighborhood police team.

Several posts were posted on Facebook warning residents about the alleged poison found in the park.

A post shared on Monday public holidays read: “There have been reports of rat poison on dog food in bushes in Winton Park – please be very careful and keep your dog on a leash when walking in this area.”

Another post states: “I was just told that someone had brought poisoned dog food to Winton Park. Could a local council please inform the appropriate staff? “

While another read: “WINTON PARK. Dog food sprinkled with poison pellets.

“NOT ONLY DANGER FOR DOGS, BUT THE WHOLE WILDLIFE IS THERE!

“BE CAREFUL.”

A spokesman for Salford City Council said: “We are aware of the rumors circulating over the weekend and have brought them to the attention of the neighborhood police team.

“Fortunately, we’ve never heard of a dog injury, but would always recommend that dog owners keep an eye on their pets while they walk.”
