The University of Salford and its consortium partners (employer partners Siemens UK, TalkTalk, GCHQ Laing O’Rourke and Further Education College partners, Wigan and Leigh, Bury, Tameside and ADA (The National College for Digital Skills)) have been successful in being invited by the Department for Education (DfE) to create the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (IoT).
This is part of a DfE-led initiative to create a national network of Institutes of Technology (IoT) around the UK to deliver research-led, higher-level STEM-related education and training to meet both current and future workforce demands. The GM IoT is in the final stage of contracting with the DfE as one of twenty IoTs located around the country and we are now recruiting for a senior level Director to lead this exciting partnership programme.
The Director will lead and co-ordinate the successful development of the new Institute of Technology serving Greater Manchester, supporting the five Educational Anchor Partners and four Anchor Employer Partners to deliver the Objectives of the Institute of Technology, including:
- Creating a high quality prestigious brand to promote technical education and training through a network of distributed IoT Centres, initially focusing on the key sectors of: Health, Public Service and Care, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies, Construction, Planning and the Built Environment and Information and communication technology
- Delivering significant growth in the number of people gaining STEM qualifications at Level 4 and above through the IoT.
- Delivering significant growth in the number of people entering skilled employment with level 4 and 5 qualifications
- Significantly increasing the number of people from under-represented groups participating in Level 4 and above education and training.
- Improving the occupational competency of learners in response to employers’ existing and future needs.
- Working with partners to provide clear progression routes from level 3 provision, through to level 6 and on into employment.
Working across Greater Manchester the Director will be required to lead the development of the IoT partnership, successfully engaging with industry and education stakeholders to ensure that the GM IoT plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the Higher Technical Skill needs of the GM economy. A dynamic leader, with exceptional skills, knowledge and experience of establishing and developing successful partnerships between industry and education, the Director will be expected to successfully promote the benefits of the IoT to both regional and national stakeholders. Employed by the University of Salford and reporting directly to the GM IoT Board, the Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the IoT strategy through the employer and education partners and ensuring operational compliance with DfE requirements.
