Castleford, Huddersfield and Salford fined for rule violation

CASTLEFORD Tigers is one of three Super League clubs that have been fined by the Rugby Football League for violating their operating rules.

Tigers have been fined £ 35,000 – £ 15,000 of which are banned for two years – for playing a Super League game against St Month on June 30th.

A subsequent Covid-19 outbreak in the club led to the postponement of further league games against the Catalans Dragons and Leigh.

Huddersfield has been fined £ 30,000 – £ 15,000 of which is banned for two years – for failing to complete a league game with Castleford in July.

Salford has been fined £ 25,000 – with a £ 12,500 one-year ban – for breaches of Covid protocols that resulted in the postponement of league games against Wakefield (July 1st and Hull FC (July 5th)).

An RFL statement states: “In cases where the RFL has indicated that there is no reason for a shift within the regulatory framework agreed between the Super League clubs and the RFL – a framework that distinguishes between games, which a club cannot fulfill for Covid reasons ”and games that a club cannot play due to problems with the availability of other players.

“The clubs have also been warned that failure to comply with the fixture list could be considered ‘misconduct’ under the game’s rules of operation.

“The fines reflect the RFL’s determination to protect the integrity and trust in professional rugby league competitions.

“By making ‘amicable decisions’ with the clubs, the RFL again emphasizes the obligations of sport towards clubs, supporters and advertising and broadcast partners who are affected by such postponements and cancellations.”
