A Salford grandmother asks the stranger who prevented her from suicide to make contact.

74-year-old Anna Tandy says she used to have a busy social life but than that Coronavirus The pandemic started, she couldn’t get out.

Instead, she says the lockdown made her feel isolated and lonely, and in July 2020 she tried to kill herself.

I thought if I could just take a few pills and go to sleep for a day without crying or feeling lonely, then maybe I would be fine.

Anna added, “I just wanted out, so I just took the pack of pills, lay down in bed, curled up and that was it.”

The grandmother had received free hot meals from the Salford food organization. For the love of food.

At the height of the pandemic, they delivered around 1,500 free meals to people at risk in the area.

But when Anna didn’t open the door one day, the driver sounded the alarm at Sammie Bellamy, who runs the charity.

Sammie said, “One day my delivery driver showed up and there wasn’t an Anna and I thought, well, that’s weird, she’s usually there, she knows when her delivery is coming, something is going on.

“I contacted her place of residence and the alarm system went off and I didn’t hear anything until I saw that Anna had posted something on Facebook to say she was in the hospital.”

Anna has made a full recovery but she still doesn’t know who this good Samaritan was and would like to find him to say thank you.

She says, “I can only see his face, but I don’t remember him at all, and he saved my life.

I don’t think he has any idea what happened, he probably thinks I just fell to the floor or was gone so it would be great to thank him so much.

Anna Tandy

Anna now volunteers for food three or four times a week and believes that a free meal and a friendly face are a lifeline that could save many more lives.
