Trains from Bolton to Manchester delayed as carriage breaks down at Salford Crescent

Trains going from Bolton to Manchester were delayed today after a carriage broke down.

Northern Rail first reported just before 5.50pm on Saturday afternoon that trains going towards Manchester from Bolton would be disrupted due to a train that had broken down at Salford Crescent.

As a result other trains on the line were experiencing delays.

A statement from Northern Rail said: “Due to a broken down train at Salford Crescent train services running through this station are being disrupted.

“Services towards Manchester from Bolton are currently experiencing delays.”

The rail operator apologised to passengers for delays they experienced and issued assurances that engineers were working to restore the line to normal services as soon as possible.

The delays continued for around half and hour until around 6.30pm Northern Rail announced that the line had reopened and that such trains were again able to run as normal.

A statement said: “Following a broken down train at Salford Crescent the line has now reopened.

“Services running through this station are returning to normal with trains now able to run between Bolton and Salford Crescent.”

No further details have as yet been released as to why the train had broken down at Salford Crescent.
