Students in the new IT suite with the AJ Bell tech team

Thanks to a donation of computers, students at a local elementary school can now further develop their skills and knowledge in the computer curriculum.
Salford-based investment platform AJ Bell has donated 18 laptops and 16 desktops to Brookburn Primary School in Manchester to help reduce e-waste and support local children’s education.
The company’s technology team received a letter from 11-year-old Ellie Cryan, an environmental consultant at the school, asking for donations to help build the school’s IT suite. Previously, students shared computers with missing keys and could not run the educational programs to improve their technical learning.
Instead of sending the computers for recycling, the company’s IT team cleaned them, updated them with the software the school needed, and set them up in the IT suite.
Mo Tagari, Chief Technology Officer at AJ Bell said, “When the kids walked into the suite and saw all the computers set up, their faces lit up. Their environmental council spoke about all the actions the school is taking to improve sustainability and I am delighted that the technical team at AJ Bell was able to contribute with the donated computers.
“I look forward to challenging other companies to follow our example – reach out to local schools and find out how you can help with their eco programs by donating technology and promoting STEM education.”
Emily Henderson, Assistant Principal at Brookburn Primary School said: “We are extremely grateful to the team at AJ Bell for supporting our school community and donating so many laptops and computers.
Brookburn Primary School teacher Matt Shurlock said: “We now have a fully operational IT suite with up-to-date equipment and software in a meaningful program that makes a positive environmental impact.
“This is a great step forward for students to develop their skills and knowledge in the computer curriculum. We hope it inspires them to do great things in the world of technology.”
