There is no better way to start the year than with a swim in the open water!

For some, the thought of spending New Years Day swimming in Salford Quays may not seem like a swim in your boat, but for those who love water, it is the perfect opportunity to take a dip while raising funds for charity.

Working with USwim, co-founder of Her Spirit, a free downloadable fitness app, Mel Berry urges the public to wash away their worries and drama and bring them cool, clean and ready for the new year starting in 2021.

She said, “There is no better way to start the New Year than with a swim in the cold water. It’s fun, refreshing, and amazing for your body and mental health. “

But it’s not an event for beginners as Mel says having some prior knowledge is important.

Entry is £ 25 for ages 16+ and £ 12.50 for ages 7-15. All funds raised will go to the Reuben’s Retreat charity.

Swimming courses: For experienced swimmers who can swim for as long as safety allows, there is a compulsory 200 m drag float course. There is also a 100 m non-swimming course for swimmers who still fancy a wonderfully cold open water swim. Tow swimmers are still recommended.

Swimming times: Registration; 10-11 a.m., swimming; 11:00 am, party; 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. parking; Lowry Outlet Carpark next to the swimming area.

Facilities: No changing tents or showers are provided. However, there will be a covered area to store shoes / keys in the swimming area on the waistband.
