A Salford pub received a lot of support after receiving a one-star rating from a customer who had never been to the premises.
The tough review of the coal and cotton in Boothstown was left over the weekend by a person who said they had “not eaten there yet” but was looking forward to it.
Although the reviewer and restaurant were never visited, and admitted that his family thought it was “excellent,” the reviewer left one star.
A screenshot of the review, apparently deleted by TripAdvisor, has been posted on the pub’s Facebook page.

The customer in question wrote: “I haven’t eaten there yet, but I’m looking forward to it. My daughter and her husband thought the food was excellent.
“I wanted to contact the restaurant to pay for a bottle of champagne to be brought to my daughter for the anniversary.
“There is no human answering the phone and you cannot leave a message. I tried on the pc but you can only reserve a table.

“That spoiled the surprise I was hoping for my daughter.”
The coal and cotton urged people to be “friendly” as they shared what they termed a “harmful” rating.
They also advocated that people go out of their way to give positive reviews, saying that there are “far too many keyboard warriors in this modern world”.

Jason Green, co-owner of Coal and Cotton, said, “People don’t see the harm they are doing by giving such a rating, especially after everything that has happened this year.
“We are an independent, family-run company and we want to get it right.”
He added that business has been booming since reopening in April and said, “It was busy beyond our expectations. It was definitely a challenge, but it’s one of the best challenges we’ve had in a long time!”
The post on Facebook reads, “This is the world we live in now, ladies and gentlemen … The family has never been before and it has been EXCELLENT, but people go online to leave you bad business reviews !
“A few things please
“1- Not just with us, but if you are going somewhere and having a good time please make every effort to leave a good review. It is really a long way
“2- Take all the” headline “reviews online with a pinch of salt, despite point 1. Far too many keyboard warriors in this modern world.
“A timely reminder that …” whoever is trying to bring you down is already with you … “#staystrong #staypostive #bekind.”
Comments on the post and ratings made in the past 24 hours have greatly acclaimed the home, which reopened in 2019 after a £ 750,000 renovation.
One commenter said, “Pathetic! How can or would anyone take this review seriously? Sounds like they drank elsewhere before writing!
“I take my hat off to what you and your team have been doing over the past 12 months and what you have brought to Boothstown as a community.”
Another wrote, “Wow! I think she will find that you are a fabulous restaurant that just opened in the middle of a pandemic that is sticking to the rules.
“Too busy and too popular to answer your call during the service as you were too busy serving your guests the best food and drink. Yes, she has never been or she wouldn’t question your service.”
