Deliveroo drivers “poop in public while waiting to collect food orders” in Salford

Deliveroo drivers reportedly use bushes as “public toilets” while waiting to collect orders in Salford.

A witness claims to have seen employees poop and urinate outside of the company’s Deliveroo Editions division.

He claims he even found “a Tesco bag full of feces and toilet paper” in a green on Ordsall Lane – which is now plagued by an “overwhelming odor of urine”.

The witness, who works nearby, says the problem started in March last year when the restaurant and public toilets closed due to the pandemic.

And the problem has allegedly become a “major problem” because of the disorder in the region.

The online food company opened its ‘takeaway factory’ in the Salford foundry in 2018.

The Deliveroo Editions website, which consists of nine kitchen capsules, allows customers to order from delivery-only brands.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the 32-year-old witness, who refused to reveal his name, said, “You moved into the unit a few years ago and there have been problems with the drivers ever since.

“There is a lot of rubbish on the construction site and reckless driving.

“Since closing all take-out and public toilets, they have been urinating in bushes and doors.

Used toilet paper rolls were reportedly found in bushes outside Deliveroo’s unit

“We pick garbage every two weeks because we have customers coming in and it looks messy. I have found human feces a few times.

“I also found a Tesco bag full of feces and toilet paper.”

He added that because of the smell, he could no longer walk down a public footpath on the riverside.

After complaining to Deliveroo, he claims there was a sign posted on the kitchen door saying staff could use the toilets inside.

Even so, he claims that nothing has changed.

He continued, “Not only is it a disgusting environment for the other companies using the site, it’s also a serious health and safety concern.

“I spoke to Deliveroo before Christmas and got a general response that they would sort it out, but nothing has changed.

“It still smells like P *** and there are still used toilet rolls that probably come out weekly or fortnightly.

“We had to wash the front door because it stinks and we have customers coming in and out. It’s just not good.

“It’s disappointing and it’s pretty sad to see it.”

Another witness who works in the foundry told the MEN that he was picking garbage in a bush when he saw a delivery man go to the bathroom in front of him.

He said, “I was picking trash from my own bat on a Sunday afternoon.

“I was in a bush filling bags … As soon as he saw me in the bush, he went down the canal path.

“I filled nine trash bags with trash in lockdown number one.”

A Deliveroo spokesman said: “Deliveroo takes driver behavior and food hygiene very seriously and has strict guidelines for drivers to work with Deliveroo.

“We are investigating the incident and in the meantime have given all of our drivers in the Salford area clear notifications about our hygiene guidelines.

“We reached out to The Foundry for more details.”
