An investigation is ongoing after a young girl was sexually assaulted and robbed in the Lower Broughton area of Salford.
Police were called on Wednesday morning (May 12) to come over a report of sexual assault and robbery in Peel Park.
The victim – a 13-year-old girl – was on her way to school when she was approached by a man who initiated a conversation before attacking her.
The perpetrator stole her cell phone and ran from the scene towards Chapel Street.
He is described as a white man in his twenties or thirties, with short light colored ginger / blonde hair and a cropped hem, a lightly colored, weak mustache and a height of 6 feet with a thin figure.
It is believed that he wore a simple top with a blue hood, a large front pocket and matching Adidas joggers in dark blue / black or black with distinctive white stripes on the sides. He is also said to have worn running shoes, which were white with a little blue and red, and a gray Puma backpack.
The girl was not injured, but was understandably shaken and is supported by specialist officials and partner agencies.
No arrests have been made and investigators appeal to anyone with information to contact them.
GMP’s Swinton CID Detective Inspector Chris Horsfield said: “This is a deeply worrying incident in which a young girl was accidentally approached in broad daylight and the victim was subjected to a terrible ordeal by an unknown man who clearly had sinister intentions.
“Our dedicated team of officers will investigate a number of lines of investigation to identify this man and we will work with specialized partners to assist the victim.
“In the interests of public safety, patrols in the area will increase and they are working with local authorities to keep the public safe.
“We are asking for information to identify the perpetrator so that we can speak to him in connection with this sexual assault and robbery.
“If anyone has any information about this man’s identity, please speak to the police. Even the smallest information could help us advance our investigation, find justice for the victim, and get this man off our streets.”
